TRAIN & BUS INFORMATION

Central Buxton Hotel, minutes from the station - perfect peak district accommodation

Buxton railway station is managed and served by Northern Rail. The station is 41 km (25¾ miles) south east of Manchester Piccadilly and is the terminus of the Buxton Line (all change).

The service is roughly hourly to Manchester (stops at both Piccadily & Oxford Rd) and takes 1 hr appx (40 mins to Stockport). Last train from Mcr is 11pm-ish. Timetable 20 covers Manchester - Buxton. Most trains go on from Manchester to Bolton and then Blackpool.

Buxton - Manchester Airport takes 85 mins appx. Change at Mcr Oxford Road for the Transpennine Express train to Manchester Airport.

If you are planning a return trip into Manchester, a Manchester Wayfarer tkt is worth considering as it includes Manchester trams & buses in the £8.40 cost.

There's also a Derbyshire Wayfarer ticket.

TRAVELLING TO BUXTON STATION

Mainline to Macclesfield, then taxi/bus to Buxton(13 miles)

Mainline to Stockport, then banchline to Buxton station (0.5 mile) or taxi/bus from Stockport station (22 miles)

ON THE BUSES

Buxton does not have a bus station/depot and is not brilliantly served by bus as a lot that do pass thru call at a lot of places.

There is a good-ish service from Stoke-on-Trent via Leek

Trent Barton Transpeak runs an hourly service from Nottm - Derby - Matlock - Bakewell - Buxton -Mcr)

National Express service 440 runs from London - Manchester, stopping in Bakewell, Matlock & Buxton

The Trent Barton Skyline service 199 service runs from Buxton to Manchester Airport (hourly service appx). This is a top dollar service with buses starting from Buxton from 4.30am until 9pm and departing Mcr Airport from 5.15am until 11pm
