The weather (it snowed) but not your fault

Staff spk to paying guests like children there are many ways to tell a guest they must not smoke in a room! You broke the law, we told you, accept it and don't behave illegally

Train room service staff to speak to guests in a civil way and understand they pay there wage. As for room it was in a tired state bathroom even more so. Milk was off in cartons room was cold & noisy shower cold. Dirty toilet...you never mentd any of this, feeling bitter?

The car park was frozen - yes, indeed after 16in of snow in 48 hrs, but we've ordered a pallet of ultragrip salt (25kg bags) for future snow falls so it should remain anti slip

Via Email: hello Just a few comments about our stay this weekend. The decoration and the film & theatre decor was a bit dated and strange.

But on the plus side email contact was very good when booking in the Restaurant. The bar has an excellent choice of beers, the fodd was very good as pub grub (Presentation let it down in restaurant) The breakfast, choice, service, quality and speed was very good. And best of alll your staff are very very helpfull and cheerfull which lent to a very relaxed feel to the place and you know what, forget the decor and dodgy photos we will be coming back to stay (that is if you let us) I hope these comments help

Everything! Room appalling. Peeling wallpaper dirty carpets hot water available sporadically, on 22nd No hot water. Hotel is shabby, grubby and needs total reno. Bar 1/2 decorated and val (sic).

Your guest comment form was accompanied by a letter which as well as listing your complaints as stated accused the hotel of stealing Chocolate Bars from your room, a serious allegation which we totally refute.

Quite why you stayed in a hotel room for TEN days where: the TV didn’t work, there was little or no hot water, the windows were dangerous, the wallpaper was peeling, poor cleanliness was prevalent, you suffered poor sleep quality and you experienced theft is frankly astonishing.

Had you requested an early checkout at any stage, we would have been more than happy to oblige, only charging for the nights you stayed. You chose to stay for 10 nights and then demanded (in writing) a reduction in the bill.

As for surly staff, we often find staff tend to reciprocate guests’ own behaviour towards themselves

1)The pillows! Worst I'll ever come across and 2) remove TV from bar. Admire this - good for you (pillows due to be replaced Oct 2010)

Shower room maintenance/refurb (shower drain v.smelly-following heavy rain?/hotel full Bank Holiday?) there was also a leaking intake pipe to the toilet, but we mentioned this at reception and it was fixed immediately. Suggest a notice in the shower room/bedroom asking guests to report plumbing problems immediately -could have done a lot of damage if we hadn't mentioned it) - thanx for informing us, the bathroom is currently being gutted/refurbished (Oct 2010)

Warmth of welcome, friendliness of staff--restaurant and cleaner on our floor. Gives impression of nothing too much trouble! Comfortable bed-good mattress

Your food is really very good but we almost didn't eat dinner with you because of the menu-far too"busy" and pictures give it the appearance of a Wimpy/Macdonalds. The food deserves an elegant(and smaller) menu- with a simple description. I like humour but your food isn't a joke, but well flavoured, well cooked and well presented! Basket of bread/rolls would have been welcome. Fantastic breakfast- varied & plentiful.

P.S. Love your pictures of all the film stars- but annoying trying to remember some names! They would stand out more as a collection ob simple plain walls (probably part of updating generally). Peeping into one or two rooms being cleaned, note that some rooms are plainer and more modern so perhaps you have a rolling programme of decoration?

room decor & bathroom needs a facelift to make it more modern-looking, though it was very clean & tidy (bathroom due to be refitted in Dec 2010) PPS. Net curtain in room needs repair (done, thanks)

BREAKFAST! Wonderful choice-- better than most up - market hotels. Excellent service too (but don't call your customers LUV!) Dinner also quite good. You obviously have an excellent chef. (See over for further comments) Wine choice could be better more european wines of lower ABV would be nice.

You have a beautiful building which some previous management may have decorated badly, so good luck with maintaining it (we have plans, but it's almost impossible to do anything when we're so busy, but we will) People come to Buxton to see beautiful things. Why stick up bits of posters/film stars etc? It reminds me of a student residence, but during our stay I noticed a large number of people with grey hair. In you price bracket you will naturally attract pensioners (like us). So please take the blasphemy off your on-line advertising, and re-write the menu in grown-up English, preferrably removing all references to nocturnal emissions-not what one wnats to read when ordering a meal! Get a grown up to do it (he did, but hasn't really grown up) -Your cuisine deserves it

In spite of my comments I must re-iterate tha we have enjoyed our stay, and have found your staff most helpful. It would appear from your website that you take pride in listening to your customers, which can only be a good thing

Friendly + helpful staff. Fantastic breakfasts! Loved the film stills throughout hotel (but could have done without Dustin Hoffman in my bedroom!) Lovely bathroom V comfortable stay. Position excellent-just opp park & close to town/Opera House etc........V. quiet position (we were at the back of hotel, LG floor) Staff excellent (must mention breakfasts again-- as good as top hotels all over world!) Loan of mags a great idea!

decor needs refurbishment- e.g. entrance hall carpet/staircarpet. Looks v old fashioned & a bit rundown on first entering hotel.

Suggestions 1 Please soundproof lounge floor/room 40 ceiling. Our room shook when toddler walked/ran in lounge. it sounded like a load of elephants!

The very friendly staff and excellent food. It would have been nice if the owner had spoken to our group of 45 WI members instead of ignoring us (he's best left to his surreal world - just ask Slyvia). The staff appear to run this hotel—without them it would not exist Owner take note (the owner makes an impt contribution by employing them)

Facilities in rooms need updating particularly TVs A lot of TLC. is needed (we have plans to be honest, we're so busy that we struggle to get an oppty, but will make changes)

Everything was very good

Have the chef here throughout the stay. Most annoying aspect was the Heavy lorries early in the morning—as many as 3 per minute from 4 a.m. Absence of air-conditioning meant we had to have the window open (road resurfacing has been confirmed for Nov 2010 which will reduce a lot of the problem - we've chased Severn Trent & DCC relentlessly for months)

That the Buck hasn’t dropped it’s high standards of friendly service in all the years we’ve come. Great to have modern conveniences like WiFi. I feel comfortable coming here on my own, as a female, I don’t feel that in many hotels

A small quibble really- the room is dark & needs better lighting as it’s an attic room. Even stronger bedside light would make a difference//it’s too dark to read by really (other things to do apart from reading)

Refurbishment of room

The bacon had a one inch by 1cm cut out of it. When I asked the waiter for an explanation, he said he would ask the chef. However he did not follow this up & no explanation was given. It was as if some-one else had been given this first. That is the Only explanation I can think of, as no other was given. Duvets would be better - I was bitten (probably the same thing that took a bite out of yr bacon - no one's been bitten before nor do we recycle guests' leftovers - slices of bacon sometimes stick together and tear when separated). Smell of drains in bathroom

Fluffy towels. Good range of food for Breakfast. Magazines, esp. Nat Geographic & BBC Wildlife. Real ale bar. Weird but we liked candle ends in doorway. Picture of Basil Faulty. General quirkiness

Was frustrated with internet connection. When eventually logged on after 20 minutes, was disconnected 30 minutes later without being able to connect at all for rest of stay (since Dec the connection has slowed on occasion - annoying). Would not bother lugging laptop up next time. Don’t mind paying if connection is reliable. Only minor again, but room rather cold on arrival I understand you won’t know individuals check in times but maybe during colder months, radiators could be put on prior to arrival to take the chill of the room - maids should leave rads in arrival rooms on, sorry

All of the staff were lovely, food was delicious, especially the breakfast. Location was perfect as we were going to Opera House to see Brendan Cole both nights. Very eccentric hotel-in a good way (phew)

The barman was a Man Utd fan – can you change this please? (Jesus was probably one too). The personal touch and the ‘uniqueness’ the owners have established throughout the hotel. Any small defects were blasted out of sight by the ‘quirkiness’ and humour/hospitality of the staff and building

Room is much too small for a double bedded room. Obese clients could not get in the bathroom! Watch this! (ask for a larger room then - you stayed in our smallest dbl room, we are happy to allocate rooms as per guest requirements where possible))

Standards: Draughty and cold, wallpaper peeling, scuffed and torn. Tile grout moldy (sic) and mildew, shower dripping, grout around bath rotten, walls and ceiling damp (bathroom has been redecorated now), “desk” too small, bizarre pictures on walls (Sharon Stone). No room service – just back from dinner; main course arrived before the starter! And a pint of beer costs £4!!! (correction - a pt of Peroni costs £4 - cask ale available @ £2.20 & lager £2.80). And grit in the bed!!! (and you said nothing at the time? We are happy to swap rooms

Everyone very friendly, rooms clean & bed very comfortable. Food good but a somewhat cavalier attitude to fulfilling theDescriptions of the menu (who you calling a Vauxhall)

The food was fabulous & the staff very friendly. Most of all Fez, in Ramsey’s Bar, super lad who is an asset to the business. It would however be a nice touch if the manager spoke to his customers instead of walking around with his iPod ear plugs in (he’s a long stay guest – not manager – and they are NOT iPod ear phones – Shure SCL5’s....and he’s a foul mouthed and fairly boring twat at best – you had a lucky escape)

Décor is rather shabby. Shower cubicle looked so unclean on the outside that I wouldn’t use it (well please tell us or ask for a room move or stay dirty...we can't remedy stuff ic if you can’t be bothered to say nowt's said. Ripped wall paper all over the hotel etc (all over? slight exaggeartion perchance - the piece in the restaurant will be seen to when it's redecorated shortly)
